groups of women across several remote villages in the Sunderbans of West Bengal have added another task to their long list of daily chores- planting mangrove trees to create green embankments that will prove crucial to their survival and eco system.

The inhabitants of this rich but vulnerable delta region were cutting away mangrove trees to make place for their agricultural fields till just a few years back, before they realized that global warming will drastically change their way of life forever, as the rising water will engulf the islands.

Indian society needs to educate its masses against the monstrous exploitations they face. I really don’t think they can count on Governments or police to protect them. Before encountering one in 2000 I never knew how powerful they are and how tightly knit their network is all over the country.

Every year one racket is busted, at least one with nation-wide network, So massive is their network that if and when their victims escape they start harassing that person right in her home, along with her family members, forcing her to return from where she escaped. The society plays the role of idiot who thinks if his neighbour’s house is burning it’s not his concern. He will react when the flame reaches his home, or may be… the flame won’t reach his home at all!

Now they have opened their branches overseas, recently a woman from Kerala was caught supplying women to Middle East, she collects them from India, Malayasia and other poverty stricken countries and supplies them to Middle East and some other countries.

She even sometimes extorts money from the family members of the trafficked women in pretext of making arrangement of their returning to India after they have lost their papers there! Is not it a shame that such things go on and on and on?

Government and police must be happy with their share of their loot, but what about the rest of the society? Are they too gloating on the money they make by selling off their daughters, sisters and wives? I guess not!

So its high time that they should spread the education, the poaching ground of this mucks of society is working class, where money is too little and people are innocent. These people don’t read newspapers, the only medium that regularly writes about and against these rackets. To reach them one will have to go through visual media, movies- after all, these dumb movies create the scenario that princes marry flower girls and live happily ever after, or one lands in USA without a penny in pocket and returns a millionaire.

Small, effective advertisements targeting these girls, sharing the true stories of little girls who entered the hut made of candy and ended up in a witch’s claw should be broadcasted regularly. The NGO’s that work in these fields can approach the television channels and come to some arrangement.

The way these networks are rising is a shame! True shame! It’s a wonder that why so little people are ashamed of this repulsive business that’s thriving more than any honest business in this country!

Recently a shocking incident moved the state deeply, another ponzi scheme failed- “deposit and get n times back”.

People who lost money or are in grave trouble are mostly poor- the depositors and the agents! Suicide and mob fury is still daily news, because with the fall of this ponzi king the smaller schemes are crumbling down too because suspicious depositors are demanding their deposit.

The thing that bowled me out was the father of the first mentioned ponzi scheme Sudipta Sen has run a similar scheme, infamous or most probably notorious Sanchayini- it was before my time but I have heard lots of people went bankrupt and committed suicide when that widely popular chit fund company closed down its butcher shop (this is just sarcasm I meant business).

Then, his son, bought a new identity, he even managed to have a pair of parents so he could deny his connection with his actual father started his game. He was even one step further in betrayal, he was a naxalite, went to jail for a year, his value changed and he became fraud.

He started his business Saradha and with the help of political influence he ran it till this year, the intriguing thing was his company never had a record of its financial deals, they did not had a account department it seems. So how could the business run for more than 25 years?

By the money sucked from public he maintained two wives, his posh office had only female employees, sixty plus one of them (the sixty first was his right hand Debjani) men were not allowed without special permission.

The question that comes into mind is it’s very easy to catch these schemes! If accounts are properly maintained- which is a legal liability then these scams will be caught within a few years, before they gobble up so much money. So why was the failure to do the necessary? Check the accounts of a flourishing business house? Because the authorities knew that the poor people won’t be able to buy good lawyers? That must be the reason!

I wonder if his son too follow his suit, like he too has married twice like father, may be ten years later he will start a ponzi scheme with a stolen identity!

Tanmay adjusted his spectacle that was about to drop on his lap and turned, “The same message came again.”

A message in bold letters with a huge smiley was flashing on his connector’s screen: A single sentence: Machines rock human beings suck!

Deepak turned and looked at him, “Which one? Oh… that one!” then added, “Try to locate it.”

They were sitting in a dingy room, five kilometers under the ground.
