How much can be accomplished if Government and local people work hand in hand. In India, to utter disgrace of human civilization most villagers use open air bathrooms to relieve themselves. They don’t have any toilets in their households.
Kelijhiri, a remote village near Bhopal can be used as a symbol to those who want to get rid of this. Every household in this village has built a personal toilet, by the money it has earned from selling teak wood from the forest land handed over to them by government to protect forest. This I think is a very good idea in poor countries like India, to convince villagers to wild life conservation in a way that is profitable to them too. As for the sanitation- hope all villages and local governments get inspired by them.
