Since time immortal we have seen human society repeating one thing again and again- when a poor man commits a crime the justice is meted out instantly. When a rich man commits the same or worse crime justice usually delays so long that it loses its meaning if it gets delivered at all.
This month is dedicated to five women with great respect. They deserved justice but did not get it. In place of that they were choked with the hatred, stigma of a really, really disturbed society.
All the big promises made by governments all over the country about prevention against atrocities towards women sounds rubbish in Moradabad, a small town in Uttar Pradesh.
Rekha, a twenty eight year old homemaker has disappeared since 2011; her crime was she slapped her married neighbour Raju, a thirty year old married man who was stalking her and sexually harassing her for months.
It’s been more than a year, but there are no traces of this woman. The police did not even register a complaint initially because Raju is a rich landlord and Rekha’s husband is daily wager, they filed the complaint after a angry demonstration by the villagers outside the police station.
This is what happens to poor of this country when they are exploited by rich. So where is the justice? The law is supposed to save weak, the strong can make law save them.
