Thursday scribbling 21.3.13

Sharmishtha Basu (author) writes

Vijayalaxmi, a Rajput housewife near Bikaner was not allowed anywhere near agricultural fields, in her father’s home or in her husband’s home. She was strictly told that Rajput women have to stay inside house, follow purdah system.

Now she runs a call center from home, providing tips on organic farming to farmers. She is acknowledged as an expert.

She and other 13 Veerbalas collect data from 2,015 farmers and spread that further. They collect data regarding crop, land, pre and post sowing care, fertilizers, irrigation system etc. later they transfer technology about organic inputs and solve problems related to pests and diseases.

The monetary payment is not huge, but its satisfactory.

SOURCE: Source of all this writings is internet, newspapers. Mostly from the Hindu, Outlook, Indian Express, Science Daily etc.
