Sharmishtha Basu (author) writes

They sat on the banks of river Ganges in freezing cold, the world “diver” in Hindi written on their caps in Hindi, watching the river with the eyes of a hawk. They were the members of one of the most backward castes in Uttar Pradesh, their duty was to do one of the greatest service- saving drowning devotees by risking their own live.

The sad part is they did not have any fixed wages for this life risking job, the only thing they could count on was lavish tips, that can be assumed from a grateful heart if his/her pocket is not empty.

SOURCE: Source of all this writings is internet, newspapers. Mostly from the Hindu, Outlook, Indian Express, Science Daily etc.
