After spending 14 years in a house that was built at-least 100 years before I shifted into that house I have learned one thing, our ancestors were better builders than us!
The long stay in nightmarish houses of Kolkata proved that my assumption was right.
My ancestral house was surrounded by our property from almost every side, three sides will be the correct term I think, not only that it was built on a platform, high enough to prevent flood water from entering the rooms, forget about rain water, it stayed cool in the hottest summers and was not chilling in winter either, now summer being the main season of west Bengal that little chill in winter can be ignored, right?
When the political parties and boys from local clubs blasted the area with microphones all we had to do was close the windows and play something in a normal volume to block their babbling.
Can you imagine this in any modern house? Then that builder knows how to build house, have not met any such builder in Kolkata even though their rents are as steep as they can be!!
