(Continued from last week)
The added torment in the Kolkata apartment building is its water supply system, this one was not in Hyderabad there the water supply system was built by someone intelligent.
The water here is freezing in Kolkata winter, ahem, it’s tough to call Kolkata winter winter! It is not only freezing, it stays frozen from nine in the night (latest) to two in the noon (earliest)- so, we, the women who have to do the chores we have to enjoy that ice cold water every time we work on it. Now, of course you can always buy fancy gadgets, like heater, and air conditioner and blah blah blah… but are not houses supposed to be comfortable without these fancy things? Don’t people have a right to “not buy” them? Here, if you want to actually live you will have to buy them and it is not even cold, you can do without a sweater or shawl but you will have to buy a geyser!!!!!
In summer when the sun is out, sorry, sorry starting from spring, when the sun is out the water starts to boil from 11, by 10 it is unpleasant to work with, so all that laundry you piled up during the winter, hoping that you will wash them when water becomes “normal” now becomes a torment. Yeah I have heard about washing machines. Check out the previous paragraph and the question I asked there. It is uncomfortably hot from ten in the morning to eight in the night. Were you asking about bathing in summer? Read next week’s piece….
(A little on next week, the rest will continue as I continue encountering them).
